INSTITUTIONAL BACKGROUND:
The Barbados National Trust was founded in 1961 to establish and preserve the natural and artistic heritage of Barbados and increase public awareness of Barbados' historic and architectural riches.
The Trust disseminates information on natural and cultural heritage. This is done through involvement in numerous natural/cultural heritage task forces etc., and through the library which is accessible to the public.
Compilation of specific data, e.g., a photographic record and listing of places in Barbados of natural beauty and their animal and plant life, is also being done.
TYPES OF INFORMATION AND DATA COLLECTED:
While the general focus is on buildings, the Trust has collected specific data on some districts, e.g., flora, fauna, history, cultural aspects data were collected in a commissioned study on the Scotland District.
A listing of buildings identified as of historical and national importance is also available.
STORAGE AND ACCESS:
Data is stored in files, records, publications.
